Call for Papers
Welcome to The Nordic Popular Education Research Conference, which will take place May 21st – 22nd 2025 at Nordiska folkhögskolan, Kungälv, hosted by the Department of Education, Communication and Learning, University of Gothenburg.
The theme for the 2025 conference is ”Culture and Democracy,” and we invite contributions that engage with this theme in its broadest sense, drawing from different scientific fields. Culture can be understood both as an anthropological concept and as relating to studies of aesthetic practices in relation to popular education. Democracy may refer to research on citizenship and its relation to popular education, or to intersections between popular education, politics, and civil society. We also welcome contributions that explore the intersections of democracy and culture within popular education.
The conference is aimed at both researchers and practitioners interested in research. As usual, researchers are invited to submit papers (approximately 5–15 pages). Since this is a working conference, papers reflecting ongoing research at various stages are welcome. Additionally, both researchers and educators are encouraged to submit shorter papers (one A4 page) on projects or research ideas. Contributions may relate to the theme, but as always, all submissions dealing with popular education in a broad sense are welcome.
The deadline for submissions is March 30th, and they should be sent to johan.soderman@gu.se
The conference begins at 13:15 on Wednesday, May 21st, and concludes with coffee at 15:15 on Thursday May 22nd.
